Contact Head: Dr. Katrin Mackenzie Department of Technical Biogeochemistry Katrin Mackenzie Office: Mrs. Julia Dallos Julia Dallos Phone: +49 341 6025 4743 (via Zoom) Permoserstraße 15 | 04318 Leipzig | Germany Dr. Katrin Mackenzie The chemist is head of the Department Technical Biogeochemistry at the UFZ site in Leipzig. Her research focuses on the development of new processes and materials for the removal of pollutants from water, with an emphasis on in situ groundwater purification. She is particularly interested in the combination of sorptive enrichment and chemical pollutant degradation. Halogenated pollutants ranging from chlorinated solvents to poly- and perfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) are the focus of interest, as is the implementation of environmental technology processes for their removal from water. Katrin Mackenzie is since 2017 elected member of the scientific-technical staff in the supervisory board of the UFZ. She is a technical reviewer for a wide variety of funding agencies and journals and teaches "Technical Environmental Chemistry" at the University of Leipzig.
