About Eugene’s lab uses data from large human cohorts to study rates of physiological declines, the onset of chronic conditions, morbidity and mortality rates. Their main research focus is to develop a better understanding of key drivers of the aging process through the use of multiscale models. The theoretical work aims to capture molecular, physiological, and demographic outcome layers in a single epidemiological framework. The experimental work in the lab aims to identify longevity biomarkers and pathways critical to long term tissue homeostasis using large scale mass-spectrometry based profiling of human cohorts. As a postdoc at Josh Rabinowitz group at Princeton University, Eugene developed bioinformatics tools to interpret metabolomics data from the isotopic flux and profiling studies. Prior to joining Calico, he served as a Senior Principal Scientist at Pfizer Oncology, working on the identification of novel oncology targets using integrative metabolomics/proteomics approaches. There, Eugene was responsible for the development of proteomics techniques to quantitate the absolute level of expression of cell surface receptors in human tissues.
