Oxa was born in Oxford, so for our summer party, we decided to embrace our roots and do the ultimate Oxford thing. Punting! We build world-class autonomous vehicle technology, but put our engineers in a boat with a very long pushing stick, and things get... interesting. 🛶 Navigating the River Cherwell requires slightly different inputs than navigating ports and airports, but the team nailed it. Just a brilliant day messing around in boats, enjoying the sunshine, and laughing together. At Oxa, we tackle some of the hardest problems in tech, but we have some serious fun while doing it. How do we make sure AI technology is working for British companies and the UK public? By applying intelligent systems to heavy industry and supply chains, the UK is transforming high-traffic environments like ports and airports into highly connected and automated hubs. Lowering costs, decreasing emissions, and speeding up deliveries. The focus is no longer on AI as a future ambition, but on how intelligent systems are delivering measurable value in the real world. This means investing in technology that can generalise across vehicle types, guarantee safety, integrate into customer operations and work reliably at scale. Oxa at the Port of Tyne Oxa operates its vehicles using an overlapping ecosystem of Lidars, radars and cameras, sharing similarities with a significant number of commercial ground AVs we have explored in the past. Two Lidars are mounted at the YT193’s frontal corners, while five radars are interspersed about its perimeter (resulting in three radars sitting on one side and two on the other, achieving 360° coverage). Additionally, 360° visual awareness is also enabled by a plethora of cameras, mounted in tall, cylindrical ‘spires’ at the frontal corners, with some space between the spires and the tractor helping some of the cameras to keep track of objects and activity behind the vehicle.
