The lecture, co-organized by the UP National Center for Transportation Studies Traffic Engineering and Management - Road Safety Research Laboratory (TEM-RSRL), which is part of the U.P. Institute of Civil Engineering Lecture Series, brought together over 50 participants consisting of faculty, students, and researchers from UP ICE and the UP National Center for Transportation Studies, along with representatives from driving schools, road safety advocacy groups, accredited Land Transportation Office (LTO) driving school associations, the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association, and other mobility sector stakeholders. Dr. Rich Hanowski, co-founder and CEO of Motorcycle Safety Solutions and former research scientist at the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, delivered a presentation grounded in global crash data, Vision Zero principles, and Southeast Asian powered two-wheeler studies. He emphasized commuting crashes as an often overlooked occupational risk and introduced RideHawk, a collision alert and telematics platform designed to enhance rider awareness and support data-informed fleet safety management. The session presented practical, evidence-based approaches that organizations can adopt to better protect motorbike commuters. One key takeaway from the discussion: worker safety doesn't end when you leave the office. Addressing it meaningfully requires everyone, from policymakers to industry players, to work together. The challenge now is to turn these insights into concrete policies, systems, and everyday practices that protect riders on every journey. #MotorcycleSafety #TransportationEngineering 27 3 Komento Like Magkomento Ibahagi UP National Center for Transportation Studies 339 (na) tagasubaybay 5mo I-ulat ang post na ito [PUBLIC LECTURE ALERT] This is to invite everyone to the public lecture of Dr. Rich Hanowski with the following details: Topic: "Motorcycle Safety as a Critical Occupational Health and Safety Issue: Insights from RideHawk in Southeast Asia" Date: February 19, 2026 (Thursday) Time: 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM Venue: 4th Floor Board Room, University of the Philippines Institute of Civil Engineering, Diliman, Quezon City About the speaker: Dr. Rich Hanowski is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Motorcycle Safety Solutions, Inc., and Motorcycle Safety Solutions Asia (M) Sdn.
