A Philippine boutique law firm based in Manila with offices in New York City and San Francisco, focusing on innovative areas including infrastructure, government procurement, i-technology and digital research, antitrust/competition, ASEAN trade, FEM (fashion, entertainment and media), and other non-traditional sectors.
Gulapa Law Office was established by Aris L. Gulapa in September 2015 after he left a Makati-based firm where he was a partner for four years. Before this, Aris was an associate in Anderson Mori & Tomotsune (Tokyo, ‎2008-2010); Kelvin Chia Partnership (Singapore/Vietnam, ‎2006-2008); and SyCip Law ‎(2003-2006).
Aris was joined by Charmaine Haw-Lim (who was promoted to partner in 2017), Melissa Chavez, Angel Machuca, Yasmin Sanchez, Aileen Sanguir, Dake Mandocdoc, and Janine Mesina, who all worked closely with Aris in their former firm. Subsequently, New York-based Oliver Baclay joined the firm to establish its intellectual property practice. In less than a year, the firm was recognized as a leading Philippine law firm by international legal publications.
In February 2017, the firm became the first Philippine-based law firm to establish an office in New York City through its affiliate, Gulapa & Baclay LLP.
In 2017 as well, the firm sought to develop its litigation practice. The firm desired a legal practitioner who had its own litigation practice and found this in Rico Paolo R. Quicho. Rico has been managing his own boutique litigation law firm, Quicho & Angeles, for more than twelve years. Thus, beginning November 2017, the firm changed its name to “Gulapa & Quicho (Gulapa Law)”.
In June 2018, Gulapa Law became the first Philippine-based law firm to establish a representative office in San Francisco.
To date, Gulapa Law has more than doubled its size from eight to eighteen lawyers. It continues to expand globally, transcending borders and servicing more international clients, in line with its vision to innovate, achieve and excel.

Major Milestone achieved for our Philippines portfolio!
ib vogt's first solar-plus-storage development in the Visayas.
We've signed the Omnibus Loan and Security Agreement (OLSA) for our 99 MWp solar + 4 MW / 16 MWh BESS project in Iloilo, with a PHP 4.5 billion (~USD 75M) senior debt facility provided by Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) as sole lender.
A few highlights:
▸ 160+ GWh of clean power annually ▸ 85,000+ Filipino households served ▸ 70,000+ tonnes of CO₂ avoided per year ▸ Commissioning targeted Q2 2027
Works on site have already started in Q1 2026 and we are excited to now kick off the main works.
The integrated BESS will strengthen grid stability and dispatchability across the Visayas — a replicable model for hybrid renewable development under the Green Energy Auction framework.
This milestone adds to ib vogt's active pipeline of over 1,000 MWp across the Philippines, our priority market in Southeast Asia.

On 12 March 2026, the Manila Construction Dispute Resolution Forum gathered local and international experts together with close to 140 stakeholders in the construction industry, including the government, project owners, contractors, and consultants for a productive discussion on construction dispute avoidance and resolution.
The morning sessions explored the history and evolving use of Dispute Boards while the afternoon sessions focused on trends in construction arbitration, avoidance and resolution of PPP construction disputes, and practical techniques for managing complex issues in expert evidence and quantum analysis.
DFA Undersecretary for Privatization and Corporate Affairs Catherine Fong delivered the Keynote Address of the conference, highlighting the importance of effective dispute avoidance and resolution in PPP construction projects and the government’s commitment to deliver world-class public infrastructure.
Founding partner Aris Gulapa moderated the session on “PPP Construction Projects and Arbitration” while head of dispute resolution Caloy Cajucom shared insights as part of the panels on “Growing Trends in Construction Arbitration” and “Quantum in Construction Arbitration: Science or Art?”.
The Firm thanks its co-organizers, Pinsent Masons, the Dispute Resolution Board Foundation, and Secretariat, as well as the various supporting organizations, for putting together the event, whose success has paved the possibility of a recurrent conference on the topic.

Our dispute resolution practice head, Caloy Cajucom, spoke as one of the panelists on the topic “Introduction to Alternative Dispute Resolution” in an event organized by the Philippine Institute of Arbitrators together with the Ateneo Law School. Caloy shared insights on how ADR mechanisms, particularly arbitration, complement judicial dispute settlement in the Philippines. The panel discussion, which was well-attended by practitioners and students, was part of a series of events for Philippine ADR Week 2025.
