Tokyo, July 16, 2026 — Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. today announced the start of a business study with Fujitsu Limited in the field of physical AI. To accelerate the social implementation of physical AI and help realize a society in which people and robots coexist and collaborate, Kawasaki and Fujitsu will conduct a business study aimed at providing new solutions that integrate hospital business systems, such as electronic medical records, with robot systems and AI in the healthcare field, including hospitals. In May 2026, to accelerate Japan-U.S. collaboration in the fields of AI and semiconductors, Kawasaki established the “Kawasaki Physical AI Center San Jose” in Silicon Valley, the United States, as a hub for promoting the social implementation of physical AI. Kawasaki is currently promoting collaboration with leading global players engaged in AI and semiconductor-related technology development, including Fujitsu, NVIDIA, マイクロソフト, and Analog Devices, as well as with academic institutions. As a first step, Kawasaki aims to establish a “hospital one-stop solution” that covers the entire in-hospital experience from arrival and examination to diagnosis, treatment, surgery, and post-care through the integration of physical AI and robotics. Kawasaki also announced it intends to join the NVIDIA Cosmos Coalition to advance open world models with Cosmos technologies. The resulting world models will help Japanese companies test and optimize physical AI systems before deployment, shortening development cycles across factories, logistics networks, farms, construction sites, hospitals, roads and homes. To achieve both the resolution of diverse societal challenges and sustainable business growth, Kawasaki will work to provide innovative, field-driven solutions that combine Kawasaki Group products and NVIDIA’s AI and simulation technologies, for its own operations and for other companies, leveraging the data, know-how it has accumulated over many years at manufacturing sites, as well as its global partnerships. To this end, Kawasaki will actively expand its investment in physical AI, including R&D and strategic alliances, and further accelerate its efforts toward social implementation.

Kawasaki Launches Collaboration with NVIDIA to Realize a “Next-Generation Digital Shipyard”— Leveraging AI and Digital Twin Technology to Advance DX in Commercial Shipbuilding — Tokyo, July 16, 2026 — Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. today announced that its collaboration with NVIDIA Corporation (headquartered in California, U.S.) has begun to realize a next-generation digital shipyard using physical AI and digital twin technology in shipbuilding. Through this collaboration, Kawasaki will combine the extensive data and expertise it has accumulated over many years at shipbuilding sites, together with its advanced technological capabilities in robotics, with NVIDIA’s sophisticated AI, robotics, and digital twin technologies. By combining these strengths, the two companies will aim to build a production system for a next-generation shipyard that connects every stage from the design to the construction of commercial vessels in a single, seamless flow at the Sakaide Works. Japan’s shipbuilding industry currently faces serious challenges, including a declining number of skilled workers and labor shortages driven by the falling birthrate and aging population. At the same time, global efforts to reduce environmental impact are driving worldwide demand for low- and zero-carbon vessels, making it an urgent priority for the shipbuilding industry as a whole to expand construction capacity and improve productivity. To address these challenges, Kawasaki has been working to expand shipyard construction capacity and improve productivity through the promotion of digital shipyards, realized through digital transformation (DX) in commercial vessel construction, and through the development of AI robots for shipyards, carried out as part of the government-supported “Technology Development Project to Realize Next-Generation Shipyards through the Use of AI”. Building on these efforts, this new collaboration with NVIDIA will make use of NVIDIA’s physical AI stack (NVIDIA Cosmos™, NVIDIA Omniverse™, NVIDIA Isaac™, NVIDIA Metropolis, NVIDIA Jetson™, etc.) to advance a next-generation shipyard model that integrates robotics, AI, autonomous systems, digital twins, and simulation technology. This will contribute to improving the productivity of Japan’s shipbuilding industry and to establishing a stable system for vessel supply. Looking ahead, Kawasaki will pursue the use of physical AI across the entire lifecycle of a vessel, extending beyond the construction process to operation, maintenance, and servicing. Kawasaki will advance these initiatives through phased demonstration and implementation. The company will first carry out technology verification and identify on-site challenges in commercial vessel construction centered on the Sakaide Works. Kawasaki then aims to apply the knowledge gained through these efforts to other large structures and manufacturing sites, while also contributing to greater efficiency in the operation and maintenance of vessels after delivery.

A pilot project was conducted within the administrative operations of Japan’s Ministry of Defense (MOD) to evaluate the use of Kawasaki’s delivery service robot FORRO for document transportation. This initiative represents one example of the MOD and the Japan Self-Defense Forces’ efforts to transform into an organization that makes the most effective use of unmanned assets in the world, enabling limited human resources to focus on tasks that truly require human expertise in an era of population decline. To address the social challenge of a shrinking workforce, Kawasaki provides a variety of services utilizing unmanned assets, including not only FORRO, which was used in this pilot project, but also other robots and the unmanned helicopter K-RACER. In June 2026, the “Microsoft AI Co-Innovation Lab KOBE” was held at Kobe Asahi Hall. The event was organized by the AI Co-Innovation Labs KOBE Utilization Promotion Council, jointly operated by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Kobe University, and the City of Kobe, with マイクロソフト Japan as a co-organizer. Our President, Hashimoto, joined Ms. 津坂 美樹, President of Microsoft Japan, and Dr. Fujisawa, President of Kobe University, on stage. Using the development of the hinotori™ surgical support robot as a case study, they emphasized the importance of digital and AI talent who can deeply understand on-site operations and translate them into data for success of physical AI. Kawasaki also showcased several initiatives including: - co-creation development programs with students - a video distribution service for nursing care facilities, and - efforts to digitize data in nursing care settings.
