Together with TNO and Koedood Marine Group, we have completed a field test of our prototype hydrogen internal combustion engine (H2ICE), integrated into a Mitsubishi generator set. This achievement marks a significant step in validating hydrogen combustion technology for real-world maritime applications. The successful test is the result of years of research, development, and close collaboration between all project partners. It demonstrates the potential of hydrogen combustion as a practical and scalable pathway to support the maritime sector’s energy transition. 👏 We would like to thank TNO and Koedood for their expertise, commitment, and strong partnership throughout the GTD-H project. The shipment of our 10MW-class centrifugal chiller is now en route to the US, marking a significant step forward in the development of our modular chiller plant designed for high-density, liquid-cooled AI environments. We are also participating in the NVIDIA Partner Network as a Power and Cooling Partner, supporting integrated infrastructure solutions for AI at scale. You may not see an MHI product in your driveway or living room. Direct-to-chip liquid cooling (DLC) offers an effective solution by removing heat close to the source. Our two-phase DLC technology takes this further by evaporating refrigerant in cold plates – removing significantly more heat while supporting higher performance and cooling efficiency. To mark the occasion, we're spotlighting two engineers whose experiences reflect the diverse ways engineering contributes to society. For Mio Urata, Engineering Manager in our Steam Power Business Division – who oversees design and construction of civil and architectural structures for power plants – engineering began with a fascination with large-scale structures and the desire to understand how they work. But it wasn’t until a long-term assignment in Chile where local communities and herself experienced frequent power outages that Urata-san realized the importance of stable electricity and the role of engineers in supporting people’s daily lives. Sharing on this epiphany, she expresses: “Our work may not always be recognized explicitly, but it underpins the infrastructure that allows people to live safely and comfortably. In this sense, I believe we contribute greatly to society.” Beyond technical expertise, Urata-san also notes that engineers need to have a collaborative spirit to achieve optimal solutions: “Real-world challenges are complex and cannot be solved by a single individual. The ability to work with others to solve problems is an essential quality for engineers who want to deliver real value to society.” Hitomi Yoshii, our engineer at MHI Environmental & Chemical Engineering (MHIEC) who engineers electrical and instrumentation systems, shares the same sentiments. Inspired to the environmental plant industry by waste-to-energy solutions three years ago, Yoshii-san says: “This job requires coordinating with various teams and has taught me the importance of mutual support. Actively communicating and persistently clarifying uncertainties is a vital skill as small concerns can lead to major project issues.” On her hopes for other young women considering the field, Yoshii-san shares: “While there will be challenges, I encourage you to set ambitious goals without fear.
