The US public EV charging network has passed a major milestone of more than 250,000 public charging ports nationwide. It is important progress, but for fleets don't just need to know how many chargers exist. Fleets need to know whether the right chargers are in the right places, with the right power levels, reliability, access, and dwell-time fit for real operations. A charging port that works well for a passenger car stop may not solve the needs of a depot-based fleet, a regional delivery route, a transit operator, or a heavy-duty vehicle schedule. As charging networks grow, utilisation and planning will matter more than headline numbers. Fleet electrification needs infrastructure that aligns with routes, driver shifts, grid capacity, vehicle duty cycles, and operational risk. This milestone is definitely worth celebrating, but the next challenge is making sure charging infrastructure is usable, reliable, and planned around how fleets actually move.

British Columbia’s refreshed Go Electric Rebates program for medium- and heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles is set to open on August 10, 2026. This is such an important point. Fleet electrification is not just about buying chargers and vehicles. For fleets that rely on uptime every day, charging needs to be designed around the operating model from the beginning.
