Tayla Fairthorne is Kapitol’s ESG Manager, working across environmental management, remediation, compliance, sustainability and broader ESG initiatives. Her role is about connecting strategy with delivery - helping project teams navigate environmental risks while turning long-term ambitions into practical initiatives that create value across the business.   Her career began in the fashion industry, where creativity and practical problem-solving were part of the everyday. A long-standing interest in sustainability led her back to university to study Environmental and Social Sciences, before moving into environmental consulting and eventually into construction.   Today, Tayla Fairthorne brings that mix of creativity, technical thinking and adaptability to her work at Kapitol. Whether supporting project teams, progressing sustainability reporting, contributing to decarbonisation initiatives or helping plan corporate volunteering, her focus is on making ESG practical, collaborative and embedded in the way we work.   Her advice is simple: do the simple things well, follow through on your commitments and always collaborate. Australia's smallest piling rig is playing a big role beneath District Living in Docklands.   Micropiling is strengthening the existing structure from below while work takes place within a constrained, live environment. With limited access, low head heights and operational facilities surrounding the work zone, conventional piling wasn't suited to the conditions on site.   Delivered in partnership with Keller, the solution uses specialist rigs and tooling to install micropiles beneath the existing building, increasing its load capacity while minimising disruption to ongoing operations. Each pile is drilled, reinforced and grouted to safely transfer loads into the ground.   While largely hidden from view, these works play an important role in preparing the existing structure for what's next on the project. A landmark project, now part of the neighbourhood. The official opening of WeAreLiving Preston brought together the people, partners and stakeholders behind Kapitol's largest build-to-rent project delivered to date. The ceremony was formally opened by The Hon. Sonya Kilkenny MP, Minister for Planning, alongside representatives from Barings Real Estate and Aware Super, recognising the project's contribution to Melbourne's growing build-to-rent sector. In partnership with Barings Real Estate and Aware Super, with project management by Essence Project Management, design by Rothelowman and operations under the WeAreLiving platform, the project reflects the planning, coordination and collaboration required to bring a development of this scale to life. The ceremony marked the culmination of years of work, providing an opportunity to recognise the journey from concept to completion. Now open, WeAreLiving Preston brings 285 apartments and 7 townhouses to Melbourne's north, adding a significant new residential address to the local community. One of the world's toughest swims is getting closer. To earn his place on the start line, Anton Ilchenko, Kapitol Senior Estimator, completed his official English Channel Swim qualifier at Half Moon Bay, spending seven consecutive hours in cold open water as part of the requirements for a solo channel crossing. This August, he'll attempt to swim the English Channel to raise funds for Y Open Doors. An industry that builds spaces has a role in shaping how people feel within them.   The BuildingPride x Kapitol event brought the industry together to explore that in practice, alongside the launch of BuildingPride’s latest white paper examining survival culture, psychological safety, and the role inclusion plays in influencing workplace performance.    Funds raised from the night will go to Minus18, supporting young LGBTQI+ people beyond the room. Here’s what’s been happening. 1. 26 Flinders St With early works complete and structure continuing to advance, the project is tracking towards its façade phase within a tightly constrained CBD site where sequencing remains key to maintaining momentum. 2. Construction League Panel Following Kapitol’s #1 ranking in Hubexo’s 2026 Construction League, David Caputo joined the national panel at Futurebuild Australia to share what’s driving performance at the top end of the market, from project selection through to delivery capability. 3. District Living Docklands Below-ground works continue to drive progress, with micropiling advancing in parallel with careful site logistics planning to maintain momentum within an active, high-constraint environment. 4. Game On Socceroos Sites across Melbourne marked the occasion, with tower cranes lighting up green and gold in support of Australia in the World Cup. 5. MLC Sports Precinct Stage 1 has reached handover, marking a major milestone as the aquatic facilities open to the community and Stage 2 prepares for its next sequence of early works. 6. Mental Health First Aid Training Our second cohort has now completed training, continuing to build internal capability to better recognise and respond to mental health challenges across teams and sites. 7. NEXTDC M2 Melbourne Works continue across the site, with multiple areas progressing in parallel as the project moves through structure, fit-out and services coordination in a live, high-demand environment. From inner-city commercial builds to critical infrastructure and community assets, it’s been a month of steady progress across multiple fronts.
