Implemented in 9 months. Global from day one. Swift's blockchain-based ledger is ready for use, with ANZ, BNP Paribas, BNY, Citi, DBS Bank, First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), FirstRand, HSBC, Banco Itaú, Lloyds Banking Group, Mashreq, MUFG, OCBC, Standard Chartered, UBS, UOB and Wells Fargo preparing to pilot 24/7 tokenised cross-border payments. ANZ customer and owner of The Sporting Globe Bar & Grill Fountain Gate, Heath Agland, says the FIFA World Cup has delivered a major boost to his family-run business, with sales up between 20 and 30 per cent since the competition began.    "We couldn't believe how many people were coming in," he says. "At four o'clock in the morning, you wonder who's going to show up. But we've been booked out, with lines out the door and trying not to turn people away." His experience reflects new ANZ spending data showing Australians are continuing to spend around major sporting events, despite this year's World Cup being played overseas and largely outside peak viewing hours. https://lnkd.in/gmmCSymu

New ANZ insights show the FIFA World Cup lines up with a spending boost closer to home, with Australians flocking to pubs, cafes and takeaway outlets as they embrace both at-home viewing and shared match-day experiences.   Early analysis reveals ANZ customers have already spent over $7 billion during this year’s FIFA World Cup period so far, with strong spending uplifts recorded across key fan categories: takeaway food (up 6.75%), cafes and restaurants (up 5.5%) bars and hotels (up 5.2%), and sporting apparel (up 9.3%).   The data suggests major sporting events are powerful influencers of local consumer behaviour and spending patterns, even when matches are played overseas or outside peak viewing hours.   ANZ Managing Director, Data & Analytics, Joanna Gurry, said: “Whether Australians are gathering with friends at home, heading to their local pub to watch a match, or showing support through purchasing sporting merchandise, we're seeing spending patterns that seem to reflect the excitement and social connection major sporting events create.”   Read more: https://lnkd.in/gR7k-22N

I recently had the privilege of sitting down with ANZ bluenotes' Alicia Muling to discuss my first months at ANZ. I’m pleased to be sharing this snapshot of my early days in the Group CIO role alongside four exceptional colleagues from across the bank Christine Palmer, Stephen WhitePedro Rodeia and Tammy Medard.     Speaking with Alicia was a great opportunity to reflect on my time so far. My early moments have been focused on listening, learning and understanding what matters most to our customers. Launching our Technology strategy has been an important milestone, giving people a clearer direction as we move forward.      We've made solid progress and I’m excited to see what we can deliver together next.  https://lnkd.in/gkDs_Dtw

As part of ANZ bluenotes' Leadership in Focus series, I recently shared some reflections on what I've learned since stepping into the role of Group Executive, Business & Private Bank, and the opportunities ahead for our business.   Australia's SMEs and mid-market businesses are at the heart of our economy. Every day, I see the ambition, resilience and determination of the customers we serve, and it's a privilege to support them through their journey.   I'm equally excited by the opportunity within our Private Bank. The connection between our Business Bank and Private Bank is something that truly sets us apart, helping us support customers not only as they grow their businesses, but as they build personal wealth and plan for the future.   For me, our focus is clear: making banking simpler, reducing friction where we can, and helping our customers grow with confidence. We have exceptional people, strong customer relationships and real momentum as we continue delivering on our ANZ 2030 strategy. https://lnkd.in/g9-MPVFr
